Translations

Shop languages — which to switch on, where to type translations and what happens to them when you switch the module off.

Translations let you show the shop in several languages. Polish is always the base; the other languages are extra texts that you type yourself.

Shop languages versus panel language

These are two different things:

  • The shop language is the language your customers read. You can choose: Polish, English, German (Deutsch) and Ukrainian (Українська).
  • The panel language is the language you see the panel in (Polish, English, German and Chinese). You set it in Settings → Preferences, separately for each person. It has no effect on the shop.

Polish is always on and always first. Only English, German and Ukrainian are optional.

How to switch a language on

  1. Switch on the Translations module in Settings → Modules. The module needs the Shop switched on. The module rules are in Modules and billing.
  2. In Settings → Shop find the Shop languages card and tick the languages. Each one saves the moment you click. The card appears only with the module on.
  3. Once you tick more than Polish, the card shows a link to the Translations page.

The other shop settings are described on the Shop page.

Where you type translations

In the panel menu the module sits in the Add-ons group as Translations. The page gathers everything a customer reads in the shop into one list.

  • At the top there is one card per switched-on language. The card shows how many fields are "left to fill in", or "Ready".
  • Below are sections: Products (names and descriptions, with option groups and options), Categories, Catering (formats) and Floor zones. The Catering section appears only when the Catering module is on, and Floor zones when Reservations is on.
  • Each row shows the Polish source text and a field for the translation. Fields save themselves shortly after you stop typing, or when you leave the field.

You can also type translations in the editors (product, category, format, zone) with the Content language switch.

An empty field is not an error: the customer sees the Polish text in that place. Each field works separately, so in a partly translated product the name can be in German and the description in Polish.

You translate texts. Prices, photos and a product's composition stay shared by all languages, and you change them in the Polish version. The Translate missing button is in the editors, but it does not work yet ("Soon") — you type translations by hand.

How the shop reads it

The shop asks Delieta for the menu, the shop configuration and the floor plan with the ?locale= parameter (pl, en, de or uk). Delieta returns texts in that language, and in Polish where they are missing. The shop also gets the list of languages you have switched on (locales, Polish first). A language you did not switch on is treated as Polish. The developer details are in the Partner API.

When you switch the module off

Switching off the Translations module deletes nothing:

  • The shop is then in Polish only, even if other languages were on before.
  • Saved translations stay. The editors no longer show the language switch, but when you save a product the translations go back to the database unchanged.
  • The Translations page shows "Translations are off" with a Go to modules button.
  • The Shop languages card disappears from the shop settings.

When you switch the module back on, everything returns as it was.
